PNG or JPG for a page?
The right answer depends on what is on the page, not on which format you prefer.
Lossless, so text edges and thin lines stay perfectly crisp, and it supports transparency. The correct choice for pages of text, diagrams, tables and charts.
Lossy and much smaller on photographic content. Better for a page that is mostly a large photograph, worse for anything with sharp edges.
What changes when a page becomes a picture
- Searchability
The text layer does not survive. If you need the words, extract them before or instead of rendering the pages.
- File size
PNG is lossless, so a photographic page can produce a very large file. That is the cost of keeping every pixel exact.
- Fixed resolution
Once rendered, the image has a set pixel size. Enlarging it later interpolates; re-render from the PDF at a higher resolution instead.

Your file, and what the page does
Your file is never uploaded. PDF to PNG reads it into this browser tab and processes it with pdf.js, Mozilla's PDF renderer on your own device. There is no upload endpoint in the application and no copy on any server — closing the tab discards it.
What the page does send or fetch

- The site is funded by advertising, so the page loads Google AdSense. That carries the usual web basics — IP address, browser, referring page — as on any ad-supported site.
- An anonymous usage counter
- When PDF to PNG finishes we record that the tool ran, whether it succeeded and how long it took. No file data, no identifier, no cookie.

Frequently asked questions
PNG for diagrams, charts, screenshots and anything with text or sharp edges — it is lossless, so lines stay crisp. JPG for photographs, where the file will be several times smaller with no visible difference.
PNG never discards information. A full-page render at high resolution can easily be several megabytes, where the JPG equivalent might be a few hundred kilobytes. That is the trade for keeping every pixel exact.
No. Rasterising turns the page into pixels, so the text becomes part of the picture. If you want the words, use Extract Text instead.
Standard is fine for screen use and email. High is worth it when the image will be zoomed, printed, or used in a presentation on a large display.
