Blur hides, it does not delete
The most important thing on this page, if you are blurring to protect something.
Mild blurring is a mathematical operation that can be partially undone. Faces and number plates have been recovered from lightly blurred images more than once.
For anything genuinely sensitive, blur so heavily that the region is a featureless smear — or cover it with a solid shape instead. Never rely on a blur you can still almost read.
What people use it for
- Obscuring detail
Faces, addresses, screens and number plates in a photo you are about to publish. Use a heavy radius.
- Background separation
A soft blur behind a subject imitates a shallow depth of field and makes the subject read more clearly.
- Backdrops
A blurred photo makes a usable background for text, because it removes the detail that would compete with it.
Signs it is wrong
You can still tell what it says — Then it is not enough for privacy. Increase it until there is genuinely nothing to read.
The edges look cut out — A hard boundary between sharp and blurred reads as a mistake. Real depth of field falls off gradually.
The whole image looks soft — Blur applied globally rather than to a region usually just looks like a photo that missed focus.
This is baked into the export
The exported file contains blurred pixels, and the detail behind them is not stored anywhere in it.
You will need the unblurred version if the crop or the region ever changes. Export a copy.

Your file, and what the page does
Your file is never uploaded. Blur Image reads it into this browser tab and processes it with your browser's own Canvas engine on your own device. There is no upload endpoint in the application and no copy on any server — closing the tab discards it.
Because the result is rebuilt from pixels, the source file's EXIF metadata does not survive into it. Camera model, timestamp and any GPS coordinates recorded by your phone are simply not present in the output — a side effect of how canvas encoding works, and a useful one before posting a photo publicly.
What the page does send or fetch

- The site is funded by advertising, so the page loads Google AdSense. That carries the usual web basics — IP address, browser, referring page — as on any ad-supported site.
- An anonymous usage counter
- When Blur Image finishes we record that the tool ran, whether it succeeded and how long it took. No file data, no identifier, no cookie.
