What a filter is
A filter applies a fixed combination of the same adjustments you could make by hand — contrast, colour balance, saturation, sometimes a tint. It is a shortcut to a consistent look.
The real value is applying the same treatment across a set of images so they read as belonging together, which is hard to do by hand.
Choosing one
- Black and white
Removes the distraction of colour. Works best on images with strong shapes and contrast rather than subtle colour.
- Warm
Pushes towards orange. Flatters skin and makes overcast light feel less cold.
- Cool
Pushes towards blue. Suits architecture, technology and anything that should feel clinical rather than cosy.
Signs it is wrong
It fights the photo — A heavy warm filter on a blue-hour photograph works against what made the image good in the first place.
Faces went strange — Strong colour shifts land hardest on skin, which viewers judge most precisely.
It dates the image — Strong stylistic filters tie a photo to the moment they were fashionable. Mild treatments age better.
This is baked into the export
The filter is written into the exported pixels; there is no layer to switch off later.
Tastes change and so do briefs. Always export a copy and keep the untreated file.

Your file, and what the page does
Your file is never uploaded. Filter Image reads it into this browser tab and processes it with your browser's own Canvas engine on your own device. There is no upload endpoint in the application and no copy on any server — closing the tab discards it.
Because the result is rebuilt from pixels, the source file's EXIF metadata does not survive into it. Camera model, timestamp and any GPS coordinates recorded by your phone are simply not present in the output — a side effect of how canvas encoding works, and a useful one before posting a photo publicly.
What the page does send or fetch

- The site is funded by advertising, so the page loads Google AdSense. That carries the usual web basics — IP address, browser, referring page — as on any ad-supported site.
- An anonymous usage counter
- When Filter Image finishes we record that the tool ran, whether it succeeded and how long it took. No file data, no identifier, no cookie.
