How to trim, cut and split a video (free, no watermark)

Shorten a clip, cut a section out of the middle, or split one video into several files — all in your browser, with no upload and no watermark.

Three jobs get lumped together under "cutting a video", and picking the right one saves a lot of time. Trimming shortens the clip from its ends. Cutting removes a section from the middle. Splitting turns one file into several. Each has its own tool.

Trim: shorten the start and end

This is the common case — the camera was rolling before the action started and after it finished. Drop the clip into Trim Video, drag the handles to set a new in and out point, and export. Everything outside the range is discarded.

Cut: remove a section from the middle

When the dead air is in the middle — a pause, a mistake, an interruption — use Cut Video. Mark the section you don't want and it's removed, with the two remaining halves joined back together.

Split: one video into several files

Split Video breaks a single file into separate videos at the points you choose. It's how you turn a long recording into a set of clips: chopping a webinar into chapters, breaking a stream into highlights, or slicing a long video into segments short enough for a platform's limit.

How long can a video be on each platform?

  • Instagram Reels: up to 3 minutes.
  • TikTok: up to 10 minutes for most accounts.
  • YouTube Shorts: up to 3 minutes.
  • WhatsApp status: 60 seconds per clip — splitting is usually the answer here.

Does trimming a video reduce quality?

Trimming re-encodes the clip, so there's a single generation of compression, which at normal settings you won't see. It does not change the resolution — a 1080p clip stays 1080p. If you're chaining several edits together, do them in one session and export once at the end rather than exporting and re-importing between each step.

After the cut

  • Trimming is also the fastest way to get under an attachment limit — half the length is roughly half the size. Pair it with Compress Video if you need to go further.
  • Merge Video joins your trimmed clips back into one edit.
  • Cutting several clips together with music and text? The Video Editor handles it all on one timeline.

Trimming, cutting and splitting all run on your device — no upload, no account, and no watermark on the output.
